SKIN TELLS A STORY
I have always said that our skin tells a story, and when a client walks in my door their canvas begins talking. Not because I want to judge, but because I know I have stories that have shown up on my own facial canvas over the years. Our bodies go through changes as well as seasons, and we need to have a better understanding of how to address our skins hunger to meet our needs.
Many of us have looked in the mirror noticing the story of our canvas and want to find correction products and/or treatments, but we don’t know where to start, or who to trust. Maybe, you’re like me and have tried different doctors, skin care products and treatments to come up with the same concerns.
I remember when I would look in the mirror and see my uneven skin tones with hyper pigmentation from what doctors told me was pregnancy mask, and I’d need to bleach my skin to get it to calm down. Then to add to my despair I had acne prone areas that were oily around my forehead blended with dry cheeks that always looked red and chaffed. I had to use heavy layers of makeup when I wanted to cover my embarrassment. I was on a mission to find a solution only to find that every treatment and skin care line I tried still left me with dark uneven skin tones, skin irritation due to sensitivity to the products and treatments; as well as the oily/dry combination skin with red blotchy cheeks.
Then one day I was at a training in California and came across a doctor and her team that had just launch their new product line. She had formulated these skin care products to strengthen her clients skin for pre and post surgical procedures. I showed her my embarrassing blotches and told them my story of challenges and asked if they could help me. I’ll never forget it. They asked me a few questions then said, “I think these products will help you.”
Over the next few months those products changed my life.
As people started noticing the improvements in my skins appearance, they wanted solutions for their own. I decided to pick the brains of the doctors and medical staff and get every ounce of education I could on how to help people with their skin care concerns. For the past 34 years I’ve enjoyed this journey of working with the canvas of the skin in both the permanent makeup, and in the skin correction industry.
When clients come into my studio and say they don’t like to look into their mirror, I ask them 3 main questions:
- Tell me what bothers you the most?
- What is your timeline?
- How would you like to proceed towards the direction of the results you are wanting?
Let’s explore these 3 questions a little deeper,
#1 When I ask my client, “What bothers you the most?” Their response gives me a clear image of where they focus their eyes when they look at themselves in the mirror. Some people look at their mouth, forehead, eyes and see lines and this is disturbing to them. Others see patchy skin, spider veins, dark spots, scar tissue, large pores, etc. It’s vital to know two things: A- Where does my potential client feel most of their distress when they look into the mirror. B- Is the scope of work he or she wants done within my skill sets.
#2 Knowing your clients timeline is very important. If they’re planning a big event like a wedding, graduation, or a reunion where they’ll see people they haven’t seen in a while they aren’t going to want a treatment that has what is referred to as a “down time”. Skin correction treatments have the ability to eliminate superficial spider veins, red capillaries and blotches, dark spots, raised bumps, patchy uneven skin tones, pitted skin, deep creases, large pores, fine lines and more, but this could mean that you would need to allow sufficient time for your treatment to do it’s natural healing. Therefore, you would want to schedule it accordingly.
#3 It is vital for our clients to understand the role they play in getting the results they want to achieve. When an individual makes the decision to fine tune their canvas it’s important to know how they want to proceed forward in order to get the most out of their treatments and skin care regimen. Having a systematic approach is necessary to achieve our clients desired outcome. Some treatments are a one time thing, some are sessions, and some are a combination of treatments. Some clients will want to receive treatments as a maintenance on a regular schedule and recognize the benefits of sticking with a program, while others may come when they feel a need for a, “Pick Me Up, or Refresher” treatment.
And finally, I love the way the doctor always says how specific products will catapult our clients success. Our at home maintenance regimen that we strategically recommend, such as the cleanser, toner, moisturizer, eye creams, protection, and serums keep our clients noticing 87-100% improvement in their texture, tone, firmness, elasticity, brightness, and appearance.
Now that I’ve given you my story and the 3 most important questions we ask our clients when trying to explore the best plan of action to meet their specific needs I hope you have a better understanding of what we can do here at Profiles by Alisa. We’ve been listening to men and women tell their canvas story for years and love to see their smiles when they look in the mirror.
